How to purchase a beef share from a farmer

7 Steps to buying a beef share

from Sanford family beef

(This is for our 1/4, 1/2 & whole beef shares) (See details on an 1/8th below)

  1. Determine the size of beef share your family needs

    • Read this blog post here.

  2. Fill out the “Interested in a beef share?” form below.

    • Once we receive it, we’ll follow up to let you know when our next available appointment is to fit your schedule & answer any questions you may have.

  3. Pay your deposit

    • We’ll send you the invoice to pay your deposit.

    • This secures your beef share appointment with us.

  4. Fill out your ‘Cut Order Form’ at the bottom of this page.

    • We send this to the butcher for you.

    • You get to customize what cuts you and your family want & need.

  5. Pay your final beef payment.

    • You’ll hear from us again the week we take in the steer for your share.

    • That week we’ll send you an invoice for the $3.60/lb hang weight minus your deposit paid.

    • Once paid, at this point you’ve paid in full for your beef, you just have your processing left to pay.

  6. Pick up your beef & pay the processing fee

    • The butcher will call you when your beef is ready to be picked up.

    • Expect to pick it up 3-4 weeks after we take in your steer.

    • You pay them for processing upon pick up.

    • We’ll email you a ‘Beef Pick-up Guide’ showing you where you’ll pick up, how to pay, where to park when you get there, & more.

  7. Enjoy your beef!

    • We’ll send you an email of our favorite recipes to enjoy that our family loves.

  • You will pay Sanford Family Beef for the hang weight of the steer at $3.60/lb based on the share size you are getting.

  • You will pay the processor for the processing cost. Estimate $0.60-$1.00 per hang weight pound (varies by processor)

Processors We Use (This is where you’re picking up your beef)

  • Countryside Quality Meats in Union City, MI

  • The Beef Barn in Jackson, MI

3 Payments due Beginning to End

  • 1. Deposit

    • Due to reserve your spot

    • This is part of your beef payment

  • 2. Remainder of Beef Payment

    • Due the week we take in the steer

    • Beef Payment is: hang weight x $3.60/hang weight pound

    • Take the Beef Payment total minus the deposit paid. That is what is due this week.

  • 3. Processing Fee

    • This is the fee for the butcher to cut your beef, vacuum seal, and freeze it prior to pick up

    • Due the week you pick up your beef from the processor

    • They accept cash or credit card. There could be a credit card fee to use.

Your Cut order form

  • Fill the form out AFTER you pay your deposit to reserve your beef share.

  • Your beef share is completely customizable to your family’s needs.

  • Any item you do not want will be ground into ground beef.

  • If you want lean ground beef, choose ‘Don’t Want’ on the round steak and rump roast. Both are a lean cut helping make your ground beef less fatty.

  • If you need any help or need suggestions, call or text Chris 517-206-2252 or Jackie at 517-262-3358.
